“With five fellow Ulyssians  I decided to have the big adventure and ride across the Nullarbor to the annual AGM at Albany. We planned the itinery well with plenty of rest days and as one bike was pulling a trailer the whole trip was a steady safe, legal speed. On the day of my accident we had left Margaret River and were riding to Wave Rock. 20kms west of Nannup in W.A. we suddenly saw a large roo standing on the edge of the road along side a bush. The roo decided to cross the road in front of me. I knew I could not avoid the roo. I braced myself for a large speed hump. Unfortunately it was a large roo and when its body rolled under the bike it threw me off. Now I had decided years ago that if I was ever in this predicament, forget the bike, look after your self and roll with the punches. I do not remember the next few seconds until I was sliding to a stop on the the tar road. 

My protective gear did its job, my left boot laces were torn off, my helmet scraped down one side, a small tear in my jacket and a small cut in the left knee of my new NEDS jeans.

And the lesson is always ride with company, and wear your protective clothing especially NEDS jeans! My old jeans have extra padding at the knees and the new NEDS jeans had none, but are a lot cooler and more comfortable. The NEDS saved my bum and legs with out that padding.”
